In-Person and Online Parent Coaching

For younger children and children with complex communication needs, parent/caregiver coaching is a great way to support communication development! Through collaboration, we can support your child’s communication with the people and in the activities and routines that mean the most.

Frequently Asked Questions about Online Parent Coaching:

  • What does online parent coaching look like?

    • Many caregivers like to use the camera on their phone or set up a laptop computer for our virtual coaching sessions. During coaching sessions, I observe your interaction with your child and provide in-the-moment guidance and strategies for how to support communication skills.

  • Will my child have to sit in front of the computer?

    • No. Parent coaching is great for children who are on the move! Your child will not be expected to sit in front of the computer to interact with me. Instead, we can follow your child around their environment as they move to engage with them in their favorite activities, all while I support you to help your child communicate in the activities that are familiar to your child.

  • Does online parent coaching work?

    • Yes! By learning strategies to help your child communicate and practicing the strategies with my support during our sessions, you will be able to continue implementing the strategies throughout the week, which increases learning for your child.

  • Is online parent coaching research based?

    • Yes! A recent systematic review that looked at multiple studies of children receiving online therapeutic support found a high satisfaction rate among parents for online coaching services. The review also indicated that using a coaching approach was associated with greater outcomes, especially when coaching supported parents to implement strategies in their home environment. It was also found that direct child participation did not result in greater effectiveness of online therapeutic services.
