About Emily

Hi! I’m Emily.

I have 14 years of experience helping children gain the communication skills they need to connect and interact meaningfully with the people in their lives. I’ve worked with pediatric clients of all ages in hospitals, public and private schools, daycares, outpatient clinics, in homes and online.

I am passionate about providing effective, compassionate, anti-oppressive speech therapy. Though I believe evidence-based research is important, I know that much of the time, results from research studies and standardized tests are not reflective of the range of diversity and strengths of children. I use my strong clinical skills and willingness to continually learn to individually tailor my support so that children and teens are empowered to communicate authentically, while developing a positive self-identity.

I enjoy collaborating with with parents and caregivers to help children and teens communicate in a way that makes them feel heard and seen for who they truly are.

I have extensive training and clinical experience in the following areas:

  • Strengths-based Communication Support for Autistic and Neurodivergent Children and Teens

    • Experience coaching parents and caregivers to support autistic and neurodivergent individuals’ authentic communication skills including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

    • Ongoing training in strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming practices in speech therapy

  • Articulation

    • Trained in treating articulation and speech difficulties in children

    • Years of experience helping children communicate clearly so that they feel understood

  • Receptive and Expressive Language

    • Training in identifying and supporting both analytic and gestalt language processing styles

    • Knowledgeable about effective strategies to help children understand language concepts and use language to express themselves with others

    • Skilled in collaborative parent/caregiver coaching to support language and communication skills

I received my B.A. in Spanish from Guilford College in North Carolina and my M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin.

I live in Austin, TX. For fun, I enjoy getting outside, composing and producing music and reading.

I am licensed in the state of Texas (License # 114242) and I am nationally certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA number #12156831).
